Whitman County Library Upgrades Public Wi-Fi
Whitman County Library has upgraded their free public Wi-Fi network county-wide with funding they received through Whitman County’s COVID-19 Nonprofit Relief Program. WCL was awarded the funding to improve Wi-Fi connectivity and expand access to technology resources at all 14 branch locations throughout the county.
Most WCL branches now have Wi-Fi speeds of at least 50 Mbps and many have speeds as high as 95 Mbps inside the library. The equipment upgrades have also extended Wi-Fi ranges further beyond every library building so users can access it from surrounding parking spaces. Speeds depend on the device being used and how far away from the building someone is. The following speeds and ranges are now available:
- Albion: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 50-80 Mbps in the parking lot in front of the library
- Colfax: 75-90 Mbps inside the library, Center, and most parking spaces on the front, side, and back of the library
- Colton: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 50-80 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
- Endicott: 50-80 Mbps inside the library, 40-70 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
- Farmington: 35-40 Mbps inside the library, 35-40 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
- Garfield: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 30-50 Mbps in the parking spaces across the street from the library
- LaCrosse: 25 Mbps inside the library, 20-25 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
- Malden: 45-55 Mbps inside the library, 35-40 Mbps in the parking spaces to the side of the library
- Oakesdale: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 50-80 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
- Palouse: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 70-80 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
- Rosalia: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 60-70 Mbps in the parking spaces next to and in front of the library
- St. John: 70 Mbps inside the library, 50-60 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library

- Uniontown: 90-95 Mbps inside the library, 50-60 Mbps in the parking spaces in front of the library
A library card is NOT required to use the free public Wi-Fi, and it is available 24/7 at all library locations.
In addition to the enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity, WCL now has laptops, hotspots, and webcams available for patrons to check out for two weeks. Curbside laptops are also available for the public to use at every branch during open hours.
