Athenaeum Club Donates Books to Library
The Athenaeum Club of Colfax recently donated two new books on fly fishing to Whitman County Library. The library book committee, headed by Christine Kackman, donated Thomas McGuane’s “The Longest Silence, Life in Fishing” and “The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide” in memory of Shirley Tulin. Tulin loved fly fishing and later enjoyed videos of the sport.
The library book project is a favorite program among club members. Since 1963, the club has donated books to give back to the community and to remember members who have passed.
The Athenaeum Club of Colfax was organized in 1895 and is one of the oldest women’s clubs in Washington State. Since that time, Athenaeum has contributed to the community in many ways with committees that decide how to spend club funds for civic improvements, the library book project, and art and poetry contests for junior and senior high school students in Colfax schools.
